Brian J. Gallagher

The Almonte hydro plant is aptly named after Brian. It is called the Brian J. Gallagher Generating Station. Brian’s full and correct name is not Brian J. Gallagher; it is John Brian Gerard Gallagher. I did a lot of legal work for him (both in his personal capacity and as General Manager of the former Public Utilities Commission). He never once cared about the employment of his full and correct name.

That quirk speaks to Brian’s informality. But that is probably a misinterpretation because his record denotes a tradition of particularity and exactitude. Brian - like so many of the gentlemen in Town who qualify as important - is unquestionably part of the Old Guard. He like his cronies has a palpable disdain for what or whom they consider insignificant (though once again they seldom betray that predilection always preferring instead to adopt a conciliatory stance - at least for the record).

He is a patient man and a man of means. Aside from his private fortune he embellished his real estate assets by acquiring and upgrading the large stone building at the corner of Mill and Bridge Streets in central Almonte.

Brian was an extremely good looking fellow as a young man. He played football for the high school team in Almonte. He is not however overtly conscious of his appearance but I believe he knows he commands an audience when he speaks.

Lately Brian is attracting attention as President of PRATAC (Pakenham Ramsay Almonte Taxpayers Advocacy Coalition) which had its inspiration following the 2014 municipal election. He has remained steadfast in his commitment to the Corporation though not without having endured some political repercussion.
