Wilson Bassile

The general consensus is that Wilson Bassile is a character. As often as he himself has taken this punishing commentary (both to his face and behind his back), he persists in staying in Almonte as though he were miraculously grounded here. He purports to have business interests elsewhere (such as Sarnia, Ontario) but I have no proof.

Speculation abounds about him but as usual no one can ever pin him down as associated with, or beholden to, anyone else in particular; in fact, he seems to have a positive disdain for partnerships, both commercial, financial and romantic, though he never stops pining for relationships with women, whether casual or committed.

His unprompted beneficence is not unheard of especially at Christmas time. He has a fine collection of high powered commercial vehicles and automobiles including a late model canary yellow Corvette (more psychological stigma) and an old Jaguar. He likes collecting guns too.

Although he lately professes to want to drink alcohol more regularly his only apparent vice in the past is gambling. Many times I have heard of his exploits in the Bahamas (where he may have an “off shore account”).
